Product Review: Sephora by OPI Remover

Sephora by OPI NailPolish Removers

Product: Sephora by OPI Polish Remover

Price: $5.00
Steph's Rating:
Buy it: Sephora
Recommend: Yes

Summary: A non-drying nail color remover that quickly and effectively removes even the darkest shades of nail lacquer.

Sephora by OPI Nail Colour Remover is a fast, gentle nail polish remover without harsh, drying effects or the tell-tale white residue left behind by traditional acetone nail polish removers. The superior formula contains grape seed oil, vitamin E, and extracts of sea kelp and aloe vera, making it more effective than traditional formulas.

A few weeks ago, I was placing a Sephora order online and need five bucks to meet the free shipping requirement and Sephora by OPI nail polish remover was the lucky winner.  Finding a high quality nail polish remover is extremely important to me.   I'm not a hard core swatcher like some of my fabulous fellow beauty blogger gals - Steph, Scrangie, Michelle - but, I do find myself removing polish quite frequently at least more than I'd like.

Let's start with the negative and the only downside - the price.  Wow, this remover goes awfully fast when your constantly using it.  $5.00 for 2oz, doesn't go a long way.  But, it's so wonderful, I'm willing to overlook that part.  If you tend to use remover one or twice a week this will last for sometime.  Now, if your like me this could end up being a costly nail polish remover in the long run.

Now, the good and there's so much of it!  The light fragrant scent is perfect - it don't fill up the room with those "gag-like" nasty fumes.  Vitamin E and the other added benefits kept my nails and cuticles heavily moisturized from drying out which was amazing.

My two biggest complaints about nail polish remover is the dryness and strong toxic fumes.  And,  Sephora by OPI passed with flying colors.

The result - my nails are as hard as a rock - not soft and brittle!

Nail Polish of the Day: Sephora Metro Chic

Sephora by OPI Metro Chic Nail Polish

Happy Hump Day, ya'll!  At my previous job, one of my co-workers would come in every Wednesday and say "Happy Hump Day".  It drove us girls bonkers to the point we'd always laugh.  It's been rainy here and I just want to crawl back into bed.  But, I didn't.  Instead, I decided to finally open my Metro Chic ($10.00) that I've been stashing for quite sometime.

This baby has been getting alot of press lately.  So, I wanted to see what all the rage was about.  A grayish purple creme that certianly lives up to the name "Metro Chic".  The formula was thicker than I liked and applied rather streaky at first.  But, eventually smoothed out when it was all said and done.

Metro Chic is different and unique.  Metro Chic is always sold out at sephora stores and online.  Giving those two reasons - it's bound to be all the rage, duh!  But,  please, don't get stupid and pay those insane ebay prices.  Because all in all, it's not worth more than the retail price of nine bucks.  I share the same views with one of my favorite nail polish blogs, The Polish Addict.  So, make sure you check out her blog and put an end to this madness.

Sephora by OPI in Metro Chic

Ok, enough about my rant.  One reason I like Metro Chic - it's a cross between purple and gray, two of my favorite colors.  Indoor lighting, the grayish appears more visible and outdoors you'll notice a purple gray shade.  But, don't let the "temporarily out of stock" on Sephora's site get you down because they will be restocking this.  Infact, they've replinished stock three times already.  So, don't give up all hope.

Although, there may not be an exact dupe - we have some good contenders,  I'll be posting in the next few days!  Have a great Wednesday, you guys!

Spring 09 Collection: Sephora by OPI Swatches

Sephora Spring OPI Collection

Spring is in the air and Sephora introduces six new vibrant OPI shades to kick off the season just right.  Sephora's OPI Digital Diva is a varitey of pinks and orange for Spring and pops of coral and yellow as we enter the summer season.

Overall, this is a nice collection of Spring and Summer polishes especially if your looking for bolts of color to add to your Spring wardrobe. Most shades applied within two or three coats with no true application problems.

Check out the swatches below.

Sephora by OPI IM Beauty Nail Polish

Sephora IM Beauty Yellow Nail Polish

IM Beauty is a bright soft buttercup yellow creme that was a little finicky when applying, but no huge application problems.  This is the only color out of the collection that I had to apply thicker to avoid any streaking issues.

IM Beauty is the perfect shade of yellow that's not too bold nor to bland.

Sephora Hi Def Orange Nail Polish

Hi Def - a rich vibrant tangerine creme.

Sephora by OPI Lost without my GPS

Lost without my GPS is one shade darker than I'm wired with added red undertones.  Described as a coral red ceam.

Sephora by OPI 24/7 Access Nail Polish

Access 24/7 is a juicy magneta pink creme.

Sephora by OPI Techno Girl Nail Polish

Techno Girl is a pink barbie creme.

Sephora by OPI I'm Wired Nail Polish

I'm Wired is described as a true coral creme with subtle red undertones.

Sephora by OPI's Digital Diva collection is now available only at Sephora and retails for $9.00 each.

Sephora by OPI Summer: Mermaid in the Shade

Sephora by OPI Summer Collection

This Summer is all about the blues, and Sephora introduces six limited edition shades to the Mermaid in the shade collection. A mixture of grays, blue and teals that takes you back to the lazy days at the beach.

Before I get to the official review, all my swatches were taken in two different types of lighting: direct and indirect sunlight.

The application. Most shades I found to be rather sheer and required a minimum of three thick coats or four to achieve bottle color. Other than being mostly sheer, no visible formula problems and a nice collection for any blue lover.

And, here they are!

Sephora by OPI Water Baby

Sephora by OPI Summer Collection

Water Baby - a semi sheer, mix between white and light gray with fine silver and turquoise blue shimmer. The texture isn't quite a metallic nor a shimmer.

Sephora Lagoon A Beach nail polish

Sephora by OPI Summer 09 Collection

Lagoon a Beach - a semi sheer, light powder blue base with silver and turquoise blue shimmer.

Sephora by OPI Underwater nail polish

Sephora by OPI Summer collection

Underwater Fantasy - a semi sheer, light cornflower blue with silver and turquoise blue shimmer.

Sephora by OPI Fairytail nail polish

Sephora by OPI Summer Collection

Just a Fairy Tail - a sheer silver blue base with silver and turquoise blue shimmer that's really pretty. After three thick coats or more, you'll notice Fairy Tail takes on a blue silver foil effect.

Suprisingly, this was one of my favorites. I just love that foil look.

Sephora by OPI Blue Grotto nail polish

Sephora by OPI Summer nail polish collection

Blue Grotto - is actual only a two coater (ignore my swatch) and the only creme of the bunch. A mixture between a navy blue and royal that applied perfectly in two coats.

We have a few close comparisons to Blue Grotto: OPI's Dating a Royal, China Glaze's Bermuda Breakaway and Misa On the Edge.  Misa's Living on the edge being the closest dupe.

Sephora by OPI Mermaid to Order nail polish

Sephora by OPI Summer collection

There's always a shade you have high expectations for, and this was it. Mermaid to Order, a blue green frosty metallic with shimmer and yellow undertones.

I was seriously bummed when I found out that Mermaid to Order was a metallic frosty shade. Don't get me wrong, it's a gorgeous shade, but I had my heart set on a blinged out shimmer. And, if you've been reading my blog, you know me and metallics are on a non-speaking basis right now.

The closest comparison I have to Mermaid to order is China Glaze's, Adore from the Romantiques collection. Not exact dupes, China Glaze's is much more blue and Sephora's is more green with yellow undertones.

As far as the application, yes, you can slight stroke lines but it's not as bad as other metallics.

The Mermaid in the Shade collection is now available at Sephora for a limited time only and retails for $9.00/ea.

New LE Colors: Sephora 212, Ocean Love Potion

Sephora 212 limited edition nail polish

Sephora area code 212 nail polish swatch

Sephora introduces two fabulous limited edition nail colors by OPI. First up, Sephora 212. This must have shade was created in celebration of the new Sephora 5 Times Square flagship store. This glamorous variation on black channels the essence of the exclusively fabulous 212 area code.

Before I get to the details, I'm super excited to sport a new black polish. It's been so long..way too long, since a black polish last graced my nails and I'm loving it. Espically since I just cut them ultra short.

212 has every varation a gal or guy loves - glitter, holo, and flakies. The base is more of a light smokey black with gorgeous gold glitter. You'll need a good three coats if you prefer a darker black base. In my swatches above, I've used three coats, which I prefer. Plus, more bling can't be a bad thing!

With all the different varations of 212, the application dries to a semi gritty finish. But nothing a topcoat can't fix.

Check out Ocean Love Potion below.

Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion

Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion is a sensuous shade inspired by the gorgeous meeting of sea and sky in Capri. If you love Misa's Dirty, Sexy, Money and Essie's Greenport you'll love this new ocean green from Sephora.

The application was flawless. Each coat flowed perfectly on my nails.

Green nail polish comparisons

Here's a comparison to give you an idea where Ocean Love Potion falls. Dirty, Sexy, Money isn't an exact dupe, but similar. Sephora's is just a tad bit darker.

212 and Ocean Love Potion are available online only at Sephora for a limited time only. Hope your having a wonderful Tuesday!

Nail Polish of the Day: SOPI Skinny Jeans

Sephora by OPI Skinny Jeans nail polish

OPI Skinny Jeans blue nail polish

Happy Tuesday! Hope ya'll had a wonderful weekend. Good news is, it's a short week! Super yay for that! Today's nail polish of the day, Skinny Jeans from Sephora by OPI.

On Sephora's site, Skinny Jeans is described as an metallic aqua nail colour. I wouldn't necessarily classify this one as a true metallic shade that were used to. It's much easier to apply, unlike some metallics. No application problems - perfecto.

I really love Skinny Jeans, it's one of my favorites from Sephora by OPI. Maybe not as unique as some blues out there, but definitely stunning, espically for summer.

Hope you have a fantastic Tuesday! I'm hoping some get a massive post out today on BB Couture for Nails. Enjoy!

Coming Soon: Sephora by OPI Matte Nail Polish

Sephora by OPI introduces matte nail polish

Can you even handle it? Yep, look what I found lurking on Sephora's site. Coming soon, Sephora by OPI introduces three limited edition shades available in a matte texture. Looks like this is going to be the same gig as OPI's Matte collection with standard core line colours. Let's cross our fingers and hope these are more like OPI's Paz-itively Hot matte. Check out the details below.

Sephora By OPI Matte is inspired by the cutting-edge of style. This breakthrough, no-holds-barred matte finish (available in three of the most popular Sephora by OPI Nail Lacquer shades) is not for everyone. It is for the woman who likes to lead instead of follow and who wants to make a daring fashion statement. Whether you choose an all-matte nail or a matte nail with a matching gloss tip, Sephora by OPI Matte transforms you into a fashionista fatale.

Sephora by OPI Matte does not wear as long as original Sephora by OPI. Do not wear Sephora by OPI Matte with a base coat, top coat, drying products, or hand lotion.

This collection should be available within the next week for a limited time only, retail price is $9.00. Get em' while you can! In the meantime, here's some swatches I messed around with. **Please note, these are not actual matte swatches.

The Matte collection will be available starting in August. Click here to check out the swatches.

Sephora by OPI Dark Room: Swatches

Sephora by OPI Dark Room Nail Polish

Sephora Dark Forest Blue Green nail polish

Happy Monday! Hopefully ya'll had a wonderful weekend! Today I'm bringing you a scrumptious treat from Sephora By OPI called, Dark Room. It's described as a darkened forest green creme with blue undertones and a slight glimpse of shimmer that makes this unique in my collection.

Let's start off by saying, this was totally unexpected! And I hate to disappoint you ladies (including myself), no Nars Zulu dupe here. Looking at the promo images, I envisioned Dark Room as a deep forest green creme. Instead, we get a deep forest blue - if there's such a thing! It's definitely on the blackened teal side, but with green and even a bit of gray.

Overall, I think some of us might be a little disappointed because it's not your true "forest green" as we imagined. But at the same rate it's a great color that you can add to your unique stash.

Check out a comparison below.

Sephora Dark Room Comparisons

As you can see in the comparison swatch above, Dark Room is much different from other forest green shades on the market.

The verdict's in, what ya'll think of this new shade?

NOTD: Sephora Under my Trench Coat

Sephora by OPI Under my Trench Coat

Sephora by OPI New Fall 09 Color

Hope your having a wonderful Tuesday! With all the Dark Room sadness yesterday, I figured you guys could use a little cheering up with Sephora's, Under my Trench Coat.

From the polish name, down to color - I love everything about Under my Trench Coat! One of Sephora's standout shades from the Fall collection, Film Noir. It's described as a grungy khaki beige with gold micro-shimmer that's really gorgeous!

My Application: On my swatches above, I used three coats. The polish applied streaky at first, like some Sephora by OPI colors, but evened out in the end. No real issues.

Khaki Brown nail polish comparisons

Unique? Definitely! Meet Sephora's Run with it! distant cuz. A more brown version, but with the same gold micro-shimmer in both. A true khaki compared to RBL's Grunge and Orly's Country Club Khaki, which has more "mauve" undertones.

Under my Trench Coat is available at Sephora and retails for $9.00/ea. Have a fantastic day!

Sephora by OPI Matte Nail Colour Collection

Sephora by OPI Matte nail polish

Happy Sunday! Hope your having a fantabulous weekend! Are you ready for some Mattene this week, Diva's? I have a few collections to show you, starting off with Sephora's newest one.

This Fall, Sephora introduces a limited edition collection of fashion forward, matte nail colours available in three of Sephora by OPI's most popular shades.

Matte Finishes may not be for everyone, especially die hard glossy lovers. It's trendy and gives us Manicure Mavens an alternative to shiny polish. But until the formula is perfected, I don't think this fad will be catching on quite yet...we'll see!

Before I get to the goodies, let's talk about application and formula. Like most non glossy nail polishes these are fast drying, which might usher problems when applying mattes all together.

On all my swatches I used three thin coats. But I've found applying thicker coats may deliver a smoother application with less stroke lines.

Shall we check out the swatches?

Metro Chic, a flatte smokey brown, gray, purple, muddy matte.

Sephora by OPI matte nail colour collection

I'm excited to add another flatte black to my collection. What's a Tire Jack, a flatte jet black matte. I really loved this one, not as dull as the other two.

The matte collection is now available online at Sephora for a limited time and retails for $9.00/ea. What do you guys think? Love or hate the Matte trend?

The New Face of Sally Hansen Salon

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

Product: Sally Hansen, Complete Salon Manicure Nail Lacquer 0.5 oz
Price: $6.50 - $7.99/ea
Steph's Rating: 3.8 Kisses
Buy it: Walmart, CVS, Walgreens

At the Tracy Reese S/S '10 Fashion Show back in September, Sally Hansen unveiled a new line of nail lacquers to replace the Salon brand called Complete Salon Manicure. While the Tracy Reese Collection isn't officially due out until next Spring, 42 core line hues are introduced this Winter.

Before I get to the details, let's take a jump to one my faves.

Sally Hansen Commander in Chic Nail Polish

Sally Hansen Commander Chic Nail Polish

One of the standout colors from the new Salon line, Commander in Chic. A creamy mixture of Taupe, Grey and Brown that resembles our loved, Metro Chic.

Taupe Brown Comparisons

Not only are their names alike, they share a sisterly kind of relationship. Commander in Chic is a just a teensy bit darker compared to Metro Chic.

Sally Hansen Brush Comparisons

The biggest change I've noticed is the application brush. It's somewhat tapered like the Insta Dri polishes, but not as wide and a little easier to navigate on your nails.

Another difference, the bottle redesign. It's square on the bottom and more rounded near the top with a small rubberized ring around the cap. I'm not too crazy about the shape, but the added rubber ring is a nice touch.

Final Thoughts, I'm not completely sold. Along with the new face is a hefty price tag from $6.50 to $7.99 a pop, depending on the store. The application brush may be a disadvantage to some, especially if you like a flat style. The Upside: A great selection of base colors that range from sheers to vampy. Improved 5 in 1 formula includes: base coat, strengthener, grow treatment, color and top coat. Yes, you can actually skip a top and base coat. The wear is incredible!

Check out the standard colors below.

Love love love your blog Steph! I just recently stumbled upon it when I googled Sally's new polish line. So far since purchasing my first bottle (comander in chic) I have returned to buy 5 more bottles... Seriously has to be the best new nail polish line out there. Top colors for me are Commander in Chic, Grey by Grey, Plum Luck, Lavender Cloud and Pat on The Black. At this speed I think Ill own them all by the end of the month! :)

I tried the "Thinking of Blue" color last night and was very impressed with the wide applicator brush. I actually like it better becuase it provides full coverage. The color is vibrant and funky. I absolutely love the shades. I think that this new line will give Opi a run for its money and I'm an avid Opi girl. However, change can be good. : )

Sarah said, on Mar 7th, 2010 10:06 pm regarding The New Face of Sally Hansen Salon
I used to be a strictly OPI girl but when I went shopping for a new spring shade and the selection where I went was picked over I took a chance and tried this in Shell We Dance. The application was easy with the brush reminding me of the Pro Wide style OPI uses. Also the wear is very long lasting and keeps my super thin and brittle nails from breaking and peeling. At a few dollars more than OPI per bottle...I\'m sold!
